While the first day of MWC 2018 was nothing short of exemplary, the second day was also pretty interesting. Here are a few things we found really interesting:

Fernando Alonso Talked About Technology in Racing

McLaren has been proactively simulating the racing experience to test cars and drivers and to improve their performance in the races. On the second day of the Mobile World Congress 2018, Fernando Alonso spoke about how he feels about all of the changes McLaren is bringing in terms of technology as well as the switch from Honda to Renault. According to Fernando, data is crucial and is abundantly available in the world of car racing. Every car on the racing track gives away a lot of data which is then worked upon to make the cars safer and more efficient. From steering wheel inputs to throttle inputs and brake pressure inputs, everything is monitored in real-time and the information about the same is provided to the drivers on the track. This helps the drivers to improve their efficiency. The data is also sent to Woking where a team of experts analyzes the data to make the cars and drivers better.
McLaren has recently partnered with Airgain which has helped them in transferring the data as well as the processed information as quickly as possible. We have high hopes for both the partnerships as they would lead to more advancements in the mobility industry. A technology perfected on race tracks can help in a lot of industries.

Sony Introduced an Array of New Products

After quite a long while, it seems like Sony is putting in efforts to stay afloat in the smartphone market. For quite some time, it seemed as if Sony had lost all hopes to regain its position in the market but with the new announcements at MWC 2018, Sony seems to have plans for getting right back up.
Sony announced Xperia Ear Duo which is a product I’m honestly excited a lot about. A few months ago, I was wondering if there was a solution which could allow bike riders to listen to audiobooks while traveling to offices, and I came across no efficient and safe solution. This, however, seems like the perfect product for such needs. Sony Xperia Ear Duo provides a dual listening experience wherein you can listen to music (or audiobooks) while listening to the sounds of your surroundings. The smart earbuds recognize the time, location and activities all the time to provide you with personalized information all the while.
Coming to the next best announcement by Sony, XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. Both the phones sport an HDR display, a 19MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. XZ2 comes with a Dynamic Vibration System, allowing the phone to vibrate in sync with music, movies, and games providing you with a truly unique entertainment experience wherein you can quite literally feel what you view. The company brought the X-reality technology, introduced in Sony Bravia, to the XZ series. Through this technology, SDR content would be automatically converted into HDR. My favorite feature of the XZ series, though, is the 3D creator which can convert your selfies into their 3D counterparts.

The ‘drone taxi,’ eHang 184 Stunned Visitors

As eHang puts, it,

“Ehang 184 AAV is the safest,Smartest and Eco-Friendly low altitude autonomous aerial vehicle, aiming on providing Medium-Short Distance communication and transportation solution”

The eHang 184 AAV left the viewers in awe when it was presented to them in the MWC 2018. The AAV uses 4G powered IoT Radio Positioning System (RPS) and is powered solely by electricity. But how does one fly it? Using a mobile app. Yes, that’s all it takes. All you need to do is select the locations you wish to go to and tell the app to take-off and land when needed.

As the first day of the Mobile World Congress(MWC) 2018 held in Barcelona ended, there’s a lot that we found interesting enough to be shared with you, our readers. So here are the highlights of MWC Day 1:

Samsung Galaxy S9 & S9+

Launched a day ahead of MWC at Samsung’s Unpacked event, the latest flagships have been the topic of discussion for a lot of people. We’ve waited a lot to see what Samsung would offer us in 2018 and Samsung didn’t disappoint. S9+ would cost $839 while S9 would cost $719. Both the phones are significantly better than their predecessors, S8 and S8+ in terms of the features that the phones are offering to their users.

While Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a 5.9-inch QHD+ Curved Super AMOLED 18.5:9 display, Samsung Galaxy S9 features a 6.2-inch QHD+ Curved Super AMOLED 18.5:9 display. Both the phones are powered by the 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. S9+ sports a 6GB RAM, while S9 sports a 4GB RAM. Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a 12-megapixel rear camera having OIS and f/1.5 and f/2.4 aperture. Samsung Galaxy S9+, on the other hand, comes with a dual rear camera setup having dual OIS, a wide-angle lens with SuperSpeed Dual Pixel 12-megapixel autofocus f/1.5-f/2.4 sensor, and a telephoto lens with 12-megapixel autofocus f/2.4 sensor. Both the phones come with an identical 8-megapixel autofocus front camera f/1.7 sensor.

Nokia 8 Sirocco

The next best thing that made it into the first day of MWC was Nokia 8 Sirocco. Priced at $923, the flagship smartphone sports a Snapdragon 835 chipset which comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage. Nokia 8 Sirocco comes with a 5.5-inch 18:9 curved AMOLED display, much like Samsung phones have. The phone is made of a metal frame and Gorilla Glass 5. It seems Nokia is keeping up its tradition of making seemingly indestructible phones.

The phone runs on Android One and comes with the awesome Nokia OZO triple mic setup for better audio quality during calls and while recording. It has a 12MP f/1.7 rear camera and a 5MP front camera, both equipped with Nokia’s Bothie feature. The phone is powered by a 3260 mAh battery and has a USB Type-C port. The only drawback is that it doesn’t have a headphone jack.

Nokia 7 Plus

This midrange smartphone comes at a price of $492. Nokia 7 Plus sports a Snapdragon 660 chipset which is coupled with 64GB of onboard storage and 4GB of RAM. Much like Nokia 8 Sirocco, it also comes with Nokia’s OZO triple-mic setup.

This one also runs on Android One and comes with a 12MP rear camera with and a 16MP front camera, both equipped with ZEISS optics. The phone features a 3800mAh battery which is more than enough for a day’s worth of heavy use.

Nokia 6

The 2018 model of Nokia 6 comes with a Snapdragon 630 chipset which is supported by a 4GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage. The phone sports a 3000mAh battery to power its 5.5-inch 16:9 full HD LCD display protected by Gorilla Glass 3. With a 16MP rear camera and 8MP front camera equipped with ZEISS optics, the phone is as good as it gets in the $344 range.

Nokia 1

This one came as a surprise. Nokia 1 runs on Android Go, which is a light version of Android Oreo 8.1 powered by a MediaTek MT6737M SoC chipset. The phone comes with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage at a cost of merely $85. It sports a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera. Nokia 1 has a 4.5-inch 16:9 LCD IPS display and comes with customizable Xpress-on covers.

Nokia 8110

Nokia has brought yet another iconic feature phone back to life with the new Nokia 8110 “banana phone” which features a sliding keymat with a T9 keypad having navigation buttons. Nokia 8110 runs on Kai OS (based on Firefox OS), and sports a Qualcomm 205 chipset with a 512MB RAM and 4GB onboard storage.

The $91 phone sports a 2.4-inch curved display backed by a 1500mAh battery. It even has a 2MP rear camera with LED flash. What baffled the audience was the fact that the feature phone has a dual-SIM setup with a 4G VoLTE network support.

Mobile World Congress is back again with some of the biggest names in the mobility industry ready to show off latest gadgets. The event starts on 25th February with the press day and expects multiple flagships to make their debut at the event.

While Apple and Google prefer to have their own events separately, almost everyone in the industry would attend Mobile World Congress. While you won’t be seeing Google launch any new phone in MWC 2018, you would see an extensive presence of Google showcasing the latest version of Android.

It is hard to say what would be seen in the event, here are a few expectations for this year’s MWC:

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus

This one is a little more than an expectation. We know for sure that Samsung Galaxy S9 phones are going to be debuted in Mobile World Congress 2018 since the official invites have already been sent out for the same. Samsung has confirmed that the phones would be powered by an advanced AI-ready chip.

Apart from the things we know for sure, there are certain rumors that have been floating around in the last few months. Rumor has it that there would be a camera upgrade in both the models. It is expected that S9 Plus would have a dual-lens camera and both the models would have fingerprint sensors at the back. Another rumor insiders have tipped is that Samsung would be trying to emulate the Face ID unlock.

Sony Xperia XZ2 Pro and XZ Premium 2

Sony always shows off new hardware at MWC. It did it last year, and it is expected to do it this year as well. One can expect Sony to join the bezel-less bandwagon with the rest of the industry. Sony hasn’t made any statements officially yet but we know for sure that it has scheduled a press event. The names Xperia XZ2 Pro and Xperia XZ Premium 2 have come up much too often, hence it is expected that these would be the new flagships which Sony would launch in MWC 2018.

LG V30

It is almost certain that LG would be launching an upgraded version of V30 at MWC. The upgraded V30 would be completed with AI which would help it’s onboard camera deliver better image recognition. This would help it adjust the settings better according to what you’re shooting. Moreover, the phone would see a better Google Assistant with new and improved voice commands.

Apart from LG V30, there isn’t much that LG would bring to MWC. We wanted to see LG G7 but it is rumored to be launched later this year. Well, LG had already told that it would release fewer mobiles in the future so there isn’t much we can look forward to in the event when it comes to LG.

Nokia 9

While Nokia 8 was really good, it still had to struggle to stand out due to the tough competition. MWC 2018 would see Nokia releasing Nokia 9 which would be the first Nokia flagship ever since the time when HMD Global took over Nokia. Rumors have it that the phone would have a 5.5-inch QHD OLED screen, tiny bezels, a water-resistant metallic body, and dual-lens camera both on the back as well as the front of the phone.

These were what excited us as a top mobile app development company with a team of mobility enthusiasts. What excites you the most about the upcoming event? Let us know in the comments below! And if you found this exciting enough, spread the word about it by sharing the blog.
